Interactive art is an amazing way to truly experience creativity, transforming a passive activity into something dynamic and engaging. It turns every person into an artist, and each piece into something completely and utterly unique.
This innovative approach to art is not only captivating galleries and public spaces but is also finding its way into both corporate events and personal and intimate celebrations—particularly weddings. Imagine a wedding where guests don't just witness the love story unfold but actively contribute to its artistic expression. Doesn’t that sound like a match made in heaven?
What’s Interactive Art?
It’s art you can play with.
Art you can immerse yourself in, become a part of and even create yourself.
It’s art that brings the viewer into the creation, putting them squarely in the middle of the art itself. Art that responds to the actions of the people viewing it. There are a lot of different types of interactive art in the world now, from installations that viewers can walk through, touching, seeing and feeling, to sculpture, music and painting.
In other words, it’s the complete opposite of traditional art, where the audience is expected to sit quietly and appreciate it passively. Interactive art is alive, influenced by the people interacting while blurring the lines between artist and audience to create pieces, displays and installations that are truly one of a kind.
Where Did It Come From?
The idea of interactive art has its roots in the broader movements of modern and contemporary art in the 20th Century. It began to take shape in the 1920s and 1930s, influenced mainly by the Dada movement, which embraced chance, unpredictability and audience involvement. More and more artists were looking for ways to bring the audience closer to the art, and the 1950s and 60s brought the rise of performance art made popular by artists like Yoko Ono and Nam June Paik. In the latter half of the 20th century technology allowed artists to create art that could change and respond in real time to viewer’s actions.
Now, interactive art is recognised as a vital genre – something that uses everything from VR to social media to create new works of art that engage their audience on a whole new level.
Corporate Collaboration On a New Level
Businesses of all shapes and sizes love to do team building activities. Some even take full days away to get their employees in one place and working together on something that isn’t work. It’s a great way to break the ice, get co-workers bonding and generally improve the performance of your workforce. But let’s face it, the activities get a bit same-y!
What if, instead of the same ‘build a bridge out of paper’, scavenger hunts or games of two truths and a lie, you could do something that unleashes the creative parts of the brain? Something that gets the ideas flowing, boost confidence and smiles cracking? Interactive painting sessions are the perfect way to boost collaboration within teams in an entirely new way – by getting them focussed on creating something beautiful together. It’s also a great way for teams to learn a new skill, and gives you an amazing conversation piece to hang in your office.
Interactive Art At Weddings
Over the last 10 years, couples have been looking for ways to make their weddings more interactive. Rather than them being the centre of the day, many wanted to continue the theme of celebrating together and making everyone feel involved. There are a lot of different ways you can do this of course, but our personal favourite has been bringing art into the wedding, and the guests into the art.
Enter, interactive art!
Interactive art at weddings adds a unique and engaging element to the celebration, transforming the event into a much more immersive experience for your guests. It’s an activity that encourages participation, whether that’s through live painting, collaborative installations or digital art that reacts to sound or movement. As you might be able to tell from what we do, our personal favourite is interactive painting. This is where guests all contribute to a collective piece of artwork throughout the day, leaving the couple with a meaningful keepsake they can enjoy for years to come. You can see some beautiful examples from some of our weddings here.
Interactive art isn’t just about keeping your guests entertained during the lulls of a wedding day. It’s also about fostering a deeper connection among attendees, and creating memorable moments that reflect the couple’s creativity and personal style. It brings together generations of the same family, and families joining together, creating something more than just signatures in a guestbook. Something that preserves those bonds and becomes a treasured family symbol. This approach can turn your wedding into a dynamic and evolving celebration, making it a truly unforgettable experience for everyone.
Our interactive art services allow your guests to make their mark on your wedding day, and your canvas. They bring together your guests in a collaborative activity, painting a canvas that has been designed just for you.
